AdeleAdele Mara April 28, 1923 (died May 7, 2010) was an American singer, actress, and dancer, who was in films during the 1950s and 1940s as well as on television in the 1950s and 1960s. Adele St. Mara became her professional name and she was offered a contract by Columbia Pictures [citation needed]. She was able to work in comedy shorts as well as features for Columbia Pictures "B". It was then changed to Adele Mara. Mara was a receptionist in Three Stooges' film I Can Hardly Wait. Mara and Leslie Brooks played the sisters of Rita Hayworth's character in the Fred Astaire film You Were Never Lovelier. Brooks plays the lead female role in Alias Boston Blackie (1942), playing the sister of an wrongly accused and released prisoner. The film was released by Republic Pictures after her Columbia contract was cancelled. The studio specialized in films based on westerns and outdoor adventures. The actress was featured in The Vampire's Ghost, Wake of the Red Witch which starred John Wayne, Angel in Exile (leading lady), Sands of Iwo Jima with John Wayne in which she played John Agar's love interest, California Passage (leading lady) and Don Siegel's Count the Hours (supporting role).
